How Do I Become A Surrogate?

The Journey of Being a Surrogate

Becoming a surrogate is a profound act of kindness, where a woman carries and gives birth to a child for another individual or couple. It is a significant step that often turns hope into reality for many who dream of parenthood.

Understanding Surrogacy: Types of Surrogacy

Surrogacy generally falls into two main categories:

  • Gestational Surrogacy
  • Traditional Surrogacy

Beginning the Journey as a Surrogate

Once you decide on this path, the subsequent step involves connecting with reputable surrogacy agencies or fertility centres. After expressing interest, the candidate will undergo an eligibility evaluation. Successful completion ensures your registration as a potential surrogate.

Screening and Requirements

Safety and well-being are at the forefront of our considerations for both the surrogate and the child. Accordingly, every potential surrogate must satisfy health and well-being criteria. While the fertility clinic will make the final call on your eligibility, it is also crucial for the intended parents to feel confident about the surrogate’s medical history.

Key Considerations

  • Age: The suitable age bracket for The Way Center is 21-30 years. This limit helps in ensuring the health and safety of both the surrogate and the baby.
  • Body Mass: A healthy BMI is essential. It is not merely about weight but ensuring the surrogate’s overall health, which plays a pivotal role in conception and pregnancy.
  • Proven Fertility: Past successful pregnancies are a prerequisite, affirming a surrogate’s ability to bear children.
  • Pregnancy History: Previous pregnancies should be devoid of significant complications, which include conditions like preeclampsia or preterm labour.
  • Mental Health: Emotional wellness is paramount. If you have been on anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medications, there should be a 12-month gap before initiating the surrogacy process.
  • Tattoos & Piercings: Any new tattoos or piercings should be at least 12 months old to ensure health and safety during the process.
  • Criminal Record: No criminal records.
